It’s that time of year again! Russian River Brewing Company has released its triple IPA, Pliny the Younger, and everyone wants to get a sampling of this fine golden nectar. If you are unfamiliar with Pliny the Younger, be sure to check out my write-up about last year’s release, but in brief, it is widely considered one of the best beers in the world. (And for anyone who is wondering, the handsome fellow to the right is the actual Pliny the Younger sporting a lovely striped sweater and hat.) And for your convience, Beer Guy LA has compiled a list of where, when, and how to score some Pliny.
Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach and Seal Beach
Beachwood is having its 2nd Annual “Pliny Fights Cancer Charity Raffle” for it’s allotment of Pliny the Younger. Just stop by either location before the 17th of February to purchase your $5 raffle ticket and on the 18th they will draw 130 lucky winners. If you do happen to win, you will have 10 days to redeem your ticket.
38 Degrees in Alhambra

Tickets will be given out to the first 300 for the right to purchase a special Russian River flight consisting of Pliny The Younger, Pliny The Elder, Blind Pig IPA and 1 special Russian River Beer TBD. While you’re there, be sure to grab some of their amazing food.

They will be offering pours of Pliny the Younger on a first come basis. You will have the option to buy a 8oz pour for $8 or a flight of Blind Pig, Pliny the Elder, and Pliny the Younger for $14. If there is a line, tickets will be handed out just before 11am.

Mohawk Bend in Silver Lake

Come by at 4pm for the happy hour specials, stay till 6pm for the amazing beer. Starting at 6pm they will be offering 6oz pours of Pliny the Younger for $6.50, but you can buy two pours! They will also be offering 4oz flights of Blind Pig, Pliny the Elder, and Pliny the Younger. They are taking reservations, but it is unclear if that guarantees a pour of the Younger.
Surly Goat in West Hollywood
Thursday February 21 6pm
Feel free to line up on Santa Monica Blvd for a chance to get some Pliny. If you happen to be a Beer Passport holder with 50+ stamps, you will get early access at 5:30pm. This particular event has been known to be very crowded in past years.
Blue Palms Brewhouse

10oz for $20, which might seem extreme but it is for a good cause. All the proceeds above their actual costs will go to the Los Angeles Police Activities League, a youth crime prevention program that relies on educational, athletic and other recreational activities to cement a bond between police officers and the youth in our community.
