For my next micro-review, I present Hangar 24 Hammerhead, the fourth release in their Barrel Roll series. This brew is a 13.8% barrel aged (rye whiskey and bourbon) barleywine that was released in on March 31 of 2012.
The pour is a cloudy dark amber with just a slight ring of head. Aroma has a very sweet malty character with an alcohol burn to it. Thick mouthful with a good amount of carbonation. The flavor is mostly malty with a bit of yeastiness and an earthy finish. You definitely taste the bourbon and whiskey throughout. Overall this is a great barrel aged barleywine, but definitely not for the faint of heart.
